演講摘要:As the frequency of extreme climate disasters continues to increase, rural economies and long-term agricultural sustainability are facing an unprecedented challenge. On the edge of this climate tipping point, climate-resilient agriculture is not only critical for the planet's well-being but also plays a crucial role in societal stability globally. Furthermore, driven by the advancement of high-throughput genomics and informatics technologies, agriculture, forestry, and natural resource conservation and management have seen the most consequential disruption since the first domestication of plants and animals ten thousand years ago. This time- "the second domestication" is primarily led by precision biology, encompassing the informatics and biotechnologies that can now design and program cells, organisms, and the agroecosystem. In this presentation, I would like to share the journey – of where we embrace and learn about the knowledge in plant genomes, such as genetic diversity, selection signature, and functional genomic elements associated with trait variability and adaptive attributes, which are vital underpinnings for agricultural productivity and long-term sustainability. We showcase these with study examples from a number of crop species, aiming to illustrate how genomic knowledge can be directly translated into societal impacts.
